The Witch-Finder & The Headless Leper Two East Anglian Ghost Stories by Frederick Cowles Read by Christopher Halton Tonight, Haunted Tales of Darkness presents two short supernatural tales from the wonderfully macabre imagination of Frederick Cowles. In The Witch-Finder, we travel back to seventeenth-century East Anglia, where Hugh Murray has made a grim profession from the persecution of supposed witches. But on a lonely road during a violent storm, the hunter is about to discover that those he condemned may not have finished with him. Then, in The Headless Leper, a childhood encounter at the ruins of an ancient leper chapel leaves behind a disturbing memory. Years later, when the forgotten site finally reveals its secret, the discovery offers a chilling explanation for what was seen there. Separated by centuries but united by their East Anglian settings, both stories explore one of Cowles's favorite ideas: the past may be buried, but it does not always remain at rest.
